Matt Mann - Branch Manager
I studied Environmental Sciences and then went on to spend a few years building up a fair sized carbon footprint, after this I began my career in solar when returning to South Africa and have been working to bring back some balance ever since. I returned to the UK to find my roots and with this many pubs in one country I’m doing just that.
I started with the London Branch in its infancy in early 2009 on the back of a number of large contracts, we’ve now completed some fascinating and challenging projects and have many more on the cards. Southern Solar is a great place to work and I’m not just saying that because I'm paid to. It’s a dynamic company with a professional and sincere attitude towards business and a friendly and happy attitude towards life, I can deal with that
Lorraine Haskell - Commercial Sales Manager
I graduated with a degree from De Montfort University and gained a good understanding in sustainable design through my studies. After my degree, I decided to go travelling and explore Asia, Australia and New Zealand fulfilling my love of pandas and Jackie Chan!
I returned home and worked for a couple of solar companies in my hometown of Portsmouth. However, partly due to their football clubs relegation and bankruptcy, I left the city and moved to London to work for Southern Solar and start a new adventure.
Southern Solar has given me the opportunity to work for an exciting company that shares my beliefs and do my bit in the fight against climate change. It is a job and cause that I am truly passionate about and I am lucky to have the opportunity to work in something that I enjoy.
Tom Brol - Opperations Support
I graduated with degrees with Geography and with Climate Change Impacts and Sustainability. It was during my studies when I became strongly interested in environmental and climatic issues and in sustainable development. Renewable energy is a simple and effective way to mitigate climate change by reducing energy use and carbon emissions from conventional sources, and it creates positive changes towards environment we are all part of. By working at Southern Solar I have the opportunity to help people to convert the Sun’s energy into electricity and hot water and minimise burning of fossil fuels. I enjoy working with great people who share similar values and have professional, positive and happy attitude. Outside of work I like to run some miles, climb some steep crags and read good literature and science.

I retrained as a plumber in 2006 having previously completed a degree in Economics and Politics. It was during my plumbing apprenticeship that I became convinced that the increased provision of Renewable Energy was key to an environmentally aware future for this country.
As such I actively sought out employment in this field on completion of my course and after working in Bournemouth for a rival solar company for 18months I joined Southern Solar on a short term contract with the
Outside of work I enjoy running around trying to keep fit and am currently enjoying exploring all that living in
Hugo Logan- Domestic Sales Manager
I studied Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton before spending a while travelling around Asia and living in Australia. Prior to working for Southern Solar I was with a sustainability consultancy delivering energy efficiency reports for medium to large companies, highlighting ways to reduce their emissions.
In my opinion, regardless of people’s views on climate change, fossil fuels are a finite resource and as such need to be replaced by renewable technologies. Working at Southern Solar allows me to make a contribution to this cause at the same time as assisting others in moving towards a more sustainable future. It is also great to work with people who are committed to making a difference.
Outside of work I have a keen interest in photography, am a huge cricket & rugby fan and an avid reader.
James Ashmead - Commercial Sales Manager
After 9 years in the shipping industry, moving oil and gas around the world, I decided to follow my heart (and head) and take on a new challenge in a different energy sector. I did this because of the huge business opportunity available in renewable energy. This is a sector that is set to boom as demand for energy rises let alone for carbon free energy.
Global energy markets are heading for a catastrophic crisis where supply can’t meet demand unless new, secure and reliable sources of energy are developed. Solutions are needed and in my view solar is the most logical solution. The technology is simple and current. It works! You expose a panel to daylight and it produces electricity or thermal energy. Simple as that. Of course, on top of this, it is abundant and clean.
The challenge as I see it is designing and installing solar systems at the best price for customers while building a sustainable business model for the future. I want to use this opportunity be at the forefront of driving an energy evolution and creating a company that provides a model for truly sustainable systems.
I am a skiing addict and have climbed a few big peaks. I also love good food and an honest English pub with a fire after a long walk
Marius Lapkauskas - Installation Team Member
I graduated with an Electircal Engineering degree and have over 10 years experience in the field. I joined Southern Solar in 2009 as one of the first members in the London team, working with them from the very first project. I really enjoy working with so many experienced people and installing PV and SHW systems. I am proud to be a member of Southern Solar, helping people to start using green energy, given by the sun.
My free time I am spending with my lovely wife and newborn son, and if by some miracle there's time left over I'd go micro-lighting, cycling or just read a book!
