Spencer PV Case Study

Domestic PV systemMr and Mrs Spencer in East Sussex installed a 3.6 kWp system on a purpose build gazibo in their back garden.

The Spencer family have already had a solar hot water system from Southern Solar, and had been thinking about PV for a while but it was not financially attractive until the new Feed in Tariff was announced. When Southern Solar surveyed the property we looked at the option of putting the system on the from of the house where the solar hot water panels were but there wasn't a great deal of space left for a good sized system and maximize the payments from the FiT. So the Spencer's took the decision to build a gazebo/summer house in the back garden. This was designed to be the exact size to fit the system they wanted. The building was also designed with the roof at the optimal angle and with careful consideration to shading to ensure sure the system gave a good output.

Mr Spencer and a local builder (pictured above) built the structure in two weeks and the panels were fitted in the 3rd week. The system has been designed to give an 8% annual return through the FiT payments.
