Date: July 2009

Category: Housing association

Overview

Greenoak Housing Association’s development at Storrington is one of the larger Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) Level 4 developmentsin the South East. The properties also meet the Lifetimes Homes Standard, meaning they are adaptable to meet the differing mobility needs of the residents who may live there. This environmentally responsible development provides affordable houses for local families.

Our Solution

Southern Solar was approached at the initial design stage by N Design, to help design solar systems that would help to achieve CSH Level 4. Each of the 12 houses, on which Southern Solar worked, had flat plate solar hot water systems and were designed to be airtight, with the solar heating feeding a thermal store. Low heat radiators supplied by the thermal store are backed up by a gas boiler. Southern Solar provided design advice and became a nominated sub-contractor for the scheme. Once on site and working with Westridge Construction, ongoing support and advice was provided to ensure a successful installation.
