Overview:

Based on the values of the Quakers, Sibford is a co-educational junior and secondary boarding school in Oxfordshire. As Quakers, the school promotes living a sustainable and ethical lifestyle and recent building work left them feeling that their sustainability commitment had not been met. The school decided that installing a solar electric (PV) sytem was a way in which they could reduce their carbon footprint as well as reducing their energy bills.

Overview:

Hounsdown secondary school in Hampshire contacted Southern Solar to design a solar thermal system that could help to reduce the heating bills and carbon footprint for their large swimming pool.
The pool is used heavily in the curriculum and is also a valuable resource used by staff and the localcommunity.

As an Eco School it is a priority for the school to make staff and pupils more aware of energy generation and usage. The solar thermal will also provide an educational benefit as the pupils can monitor and interact directly with the data produced by the system.

Kings International School - Solar Thermal

Overview:

Kings International College is an co-educational state school of approximately 700 students. The school has put considerable energy saving measures into place over the last few years but still have very high energy bills. Having a large kitchen that is used by the school and the local community means that there is a very high demand for hot water, so Kings School contacted Southern Solar to see if solar thermal could be used to reduce their dependency on expensive oil.

Ecos Homes Solar Thermal & PV

Overview:

The Old Apple Store is a pioneering five property development by house builder Ecos Homes; the first Level 5 Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) commercial project in the UK.

The three terraced and two detached properties have been built to a high specification, with particular emphasis on reducing the environmental impact of the properties’ life
cycle. Southern Solar worked with the developers to design and install solar electric and solar hot water systems for all five properties. Wood pellet stoves and state of the art building materials mean that these houses will provide healthy living spaces with low electricity and heating bills for years to come.

Penzance House Solar Thermal

Overview

Southern Solar was approached by housing developer Wates Living Space to design, supply and install solar hot water systems for a new high rise development in central London. The project for London and Quadrant Housing had to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) Level 3. The building comprised of 75 flats in blocks of up to six stories. In order to meet CSH Level 3 the solar hot water system only needed to provide hot water to 60 of the flats, reducing CO2 levels by 10%.
