Solar PV for Farms and Landowners
Farmers or Landowners looking for a new and profitable income stream are perfect candidates to benefit from the Feed in Tariff. Farm buildings with large roofs, or south facing unshaded fields are well suited to solar PV systems and good sites produce excellent returns.
Solar PV requires little or no maintenance and is the simplest and often the most cost effective renewable energy available for farm sites. Most of the income you make from a PV system is from Feed in Tariff payments which are guaranteed for twenty five years but generating your own electricity also dramatically reduces your energy bills and protects you from any future rises in the cost of buying electricity from the grid. Planning issues are relativley straightforward with a PV system and there are no emmissions so it helps your carbon footprint as well. Southern Solar's specialist large scale PV team offer a full assessment service for your property to provide you with a specification, detailed quote and financial projection for the proposed system. We are also able to carry out shade analysis, system design, structural assessments, DNO applications and planning applications depending on your needs.
We offer a full range of systems depending on your requirements both roof mounted and ground mounted systems. There are advantages and disadvantages to both options, but we can advise on the best course of action.
Roof mounted
- If you have a large southerly roof space then retrofitting is quick and easy.
- Planning permission may not be required
- Being higher up there is less chance of shading from buildings or trees
- Make money from space that is not adding any value to your business
- Generate electricity where it is required
Ground mounted
- Great alternative if you don't have a southerly facing roof
- Systems are not as limited by space, orientation or angle so they can be optimised to get the most from the sun
- Grazing can be maintained around the system.
- Most likely planning permission will be required
