Which Magazine report on solar - recommends Southern Solar
A Which report published on the 25th of April, uncovered the "double glazing" sales approach that most solar companies have.
The idea of generating your own electricity or hot water from the sun is still relatively new to a lot of UK consumers. Some companies' sales people can greatly exaggerate the benefits and price you should be paying - and the Which report went into this in detail.

We are very pleased and proud to report that Southern Solar was the only company tested that had a good write up. The report stated:
"Just one company - Southern Solar - was worthy of a mention for its helpful and sensible approach"
There are some other good good companies out there too but please keep the following points in mind when thinking about investing in solar:
- Make sure that you only buy systems from MCS registered installers and that the products they install are MCS registered- this means that you will definitely benefit from the Feed-in Tariff and the (Renewable heat incentive) RHI which is coming in in April 2011
- Use companies that are members of the Solar Trade Association (STA) the STA sets a code of ethical practice that all its members must adhere to.
- NEVER sign anything at the survey/sales stage - dont feel pressured into buying a system as it is a big investment - honest companies will let you think things over and not pressure you into a decision.
- Beware of special "on the day" offers where the companies offer you big savings if you sign there and then - the products will generally be overpriced in the first place, tricking you into thinking you are getting a good deal.
- If you are not sure then get several quotes from companies with the accreditation's listed above - If they are members of these associations then there is much more protection for you if something goes wrong.
