26 August 2011

Congratulations to Melin Homes who are leading the way with their commitment to lower energy bills for residents and reducing impact on the environment as they are nominated for outstanding achievement in the UK Housing awards. The project to install a 1.5kWp solar system on 24 new affordable houses on the Gerddi'r Mynydd site in Brecon was managed Southern Solar.
Melin Are the first Housing association in the Uk to:
- Self-fund the installation of solar panels using Feed in Tariffs
- Install solar panels on shared ownership homes
The Site was recently visited by Huw Irranca-Davies the Shadow Energy Minister as recognition of the work that Melin have done to reduce their tenants bills and he commented:
“The partnership between Melin Homes and Southern Solar has provided a fantastic example of how solar can benefit housing associations in Wales and the rest of the UK. Not only has this project enabled reductions in carbon emissions, it has raised awareness of the benefits of renewable energy to Melin's residents, protected them against future increases in energy prices and provided green jobs for Wales."
